Rhian Horton is the COO of JUV Consulting and a rising senior at Duke University studying economics, political science, and entrepreneurship. At Duke, she founded and runs MindSpark, an after-school STEM and finance program that fosters critical and creative thinking skills, independent learning, and confidence in minority and low-income students at Durham public elementary schools. Rhian is passionate about bridging the gap between socioeconomic status and access to enriched education. Through MindSpark, she has worked to expand educational opportunities for girls within finance and STEM, while highlighting the importance of female leadership in those areas. She was awarded the Holton Prize for Innovation in Educational Research for her work, and is continuing her research on childhood education policy at the state and local level through a thesis with Duke's Political Science Department.
Prior to JUV, she spent a summer consulting for nonprofits in Guatemala with the Social Entrepreneurship Corp, worked as a research assistant at Duke's Behavioral Economics Lab, and played the harp at a coffee shop in her hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. Rhian is also Co-President of the Duke Women’s Club Lacrosse Team, an avid distance runner (she's participated in the 2018 Boston Marathon and Athens Marathon), and a huge Duke Basketball fan.
