⏫ The country paying $$$ to its Creator Economy!
The Republic of Ireland is proposing a ‘Basic Artist Income’ to help its creator economy flourish after coronavirus has decimated the industry and set many artists back from pursuing their craft. The idea, currently in consultation, was met with approval and praise as many in the creative industry hailed the government’s action on being the first in the world to offer such a policy. The Creator Economy really is the future, they’re just working ahead of us all.
⏫ We Don’t Talk About… this song enough
Disney’s latest animated film, Encanto, has captured the imagination of Gen Z. The soundtrack has hit the top of the charts, dethroning Adele’s 30, and there’s one song that we can’t stop playing. ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ has been trending on streaming services and across TikTok with nearly 200k videos being made with the sound. We’ll definitely be talking about it for weeks to come!
⏫ MJ Rodriguez, the first trans woman to…
win a Golden Globe. The Pose star won an award for her portrayal of Blanca Evangelista in the hit Fox series. She said: “This is for the LGBTQAI, Black, Latina, Asian, the many multi beautiful colours of the rainbow around the freakin’ world… This is the door that opens for y’all. Not me, for y’all.”
⏬ Would you sign an NDA to get the Tea?
In a viral TikTok video, this creator showed the internet how she made her friends sign NDAs before she shared any hot goss with them. Is this what they call loose lip discrimination or is she onto something?
⏬ Meta being investigated… again!
As Meta continues its onward march in its desire to become the leader in our virtual reality metaverse, the FTC is not stepping off its neck any time soon. The Commission has opened an investigation into Meta for anti-competitive practices in the VR sector as part of their ongoing look into its wider practices. The FTC filed a suit previously that was kicked out, but they’ve now refiled with a lot of momentum! Whatever happens, it seems Meta’s onward march may not be as smooth as its rebranding.
⏬ Joe Rogan slammed by medical experts
Serial controversialist Joe Rogan became the subject of an open letter from medical professionals this week. The podcaster is under fire for promoting conspiracy around coronavirus, and the experts have asked Spotify to take action as he continues to spread misinformation. Spotify paid Rogan $100m but the price tag for the star is turning out to be much bigger than the coins.
