Who are We Celebrating This Women’s History Month?

Today marks the first day of Women’s History Month. In the United States, every March is dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of women throughout history, which have often gone unrecognized or incorrectly attributed to men.

Read on to learn about some of the women our JUV team will be celebrating this month.

Steph Strickland, Director of Research

“My grandmother just passed away last week and she was a teacher of 50 years and among the few women her age to have an advanced degree (she had both a bachelor’s and a master’s, which was highly unusual for the mid 20th century). One of the things I admire most about my grandmother is her bravery. She had this confidence in herself and her wit to figure out any situation as it arose. Up until her final days, she cracked jokes and filled every room with a light that felt rare and genuine. I see that bravery in so many of my family members that, even with her passing, I know the parts of her I loved most will live on.”

Ariel Taylor, Senior Partner

“I LOVE Amal Clooney! I love how she exudes grace and confidence. How she allows herself to receive respect in rooms dominated by men while not sacrificing parts of herself and style that have been traditionally deemed feminine or made to be synonymous with feminine (not professional, soft/feminine colors, makeup/accessories, tonal changes, etc.) She’s both an internal human rights lawyer and a style icon!”

Stephanie Oladipo, Consultant

“A woman I look up to (besides my wonderful mom, of course) is Liyah Li. She’s a content creator and inspires young teenagers, especially female teens of color. I look up to her because of who she is as a person. She’s like an older sister to me and is always there for us as viewers and people. Her content is aesthetically pleasing, real, vulnerable, and motivating as she’s in college studying dentistry and empowering Black women in STEM as well.”

Nicole Reading, Senior Partner

“My little sister Tatum is my biggest role model because in just 16 years of life she has shown more determination and grit for the things she is passionate about than most people exhibit in their lifetimes. She inspires me to chase after my dreams despite how unattainable I may think they are. Tatum, you show me day in and day out that if you set your mind to something it can be achieved. I’m so proud to be your big sister and get to look up to you!”
